@DeanForbesPhoto @capitalonfilm The only lens I regret having *bought* was one I got from a certain large format specialist company in Jamaica Plain. They said it covered 8x10, room to spare. The vignetting I got on all 4 corners argued otherwise. They said “it does at f/64”. Pity the shutter only went to f/32.

@moragperkins Totally agree with you on this. But I think there’s room for both photographers who take interesting photos and ones who take photos of interesting things. I think the former are more interesting and more skilled, but I don’t begrudge those who take the other approach.

@windsorknot Between books at the moment, but just finished Big Fence, an awesome book of Polaroids of Pitcairn Island by @blackbirdsfly . Lots of fantastic shots, with tipped in prints that are made to look like actual Polaroids, and a lot of information about the rape trials there.

@ClickErik @8888SEB We use film that wasn’t meant for consumer cameras all the time. Ever shoot with a “technical” film like Tech Pan or Agfa Copex? Meant for microfilming documents, not pictorial work. So much of what’s out there is repurposed. This stuff is pretty widely sold (FPP, Ultrafine)

Vania made the point that pretty much every Polaroid camera falls into that category.

@Resgerr I understand your frustration. The cameras are getting old, and the SX-70 in particular is quite complex. But new Polaroid makes new cameras that are more reliable, and there are ways to get reliable refurbished old cameras. Or you could just use Instax and thermal cameras. :-)

@PapaShittyCams Probably the Pentax 67. It would be a close call between that, the Speed Graphic, and the RB Super D, but it’s the most reliable of the three, and the lenses are amazing.

@keithdevereux @chadhillphotos That is what not-quite-massively overexposed Instamatic looks like. Most overexposure I’ve seen goes completely white. This is only a few stops overexposed because you can still see some elements of the picture.

I can’t remember who did it, but I’ve seen shots come out of old Kodak instant cameras on Instax. It’s one sheet at a time and not convenient, so more a curiosity than anything.

@MaureenBond @8888SEB Heh, yeah, I loved the flash cubes. That looks like a slightly updated version of the 104, which was identical to my R4 (R4 was promotional only; we got it with trading stamps). The 154 probably won’t work with FAKmatic since they’re similar. My R4 is 56; I got it when I was 3.

@MaureenBond @8888SEB Some cameras work with the FAKmatic and some don’t. Which Instamatic do you have? My first camera was a Hawkeye Instamatic R4, and it doesn’t work well with the adapter. I have three 500s, one of which I cut the pin so it would work. I understand the X15 works well.

@MaureenBond I had to replace a 14 year old cheese grater Mac Pro. Looked at the Mini, but wound up getting a Mac Studio. There’s likely to be a Mini replacing the current Intel Mini that would fall right between the current low end Mini and the Studio. Should come soon, probably October.

First time I’ve seen Penn State play on a Thursday instead of Saturday. Judging by their run game, it won’t be the last. Game’s not over, and they still have a good chance to win, but the lack of a ranking to open the season looks about right.
