@Suw that actually sounds more like something Steve Reich would write than Philip Glass. ;-)

@stevefaulkner it’s hard to make those “cool” sites with complex interactions accessible, and there’s little info available about how to

@stevefaulkner this is the biggest thing that’s missing. As an agency dev, we often get hired to make “cool” sites.

@karlgroves the good news is that when I explain a11y basics to young devs, they get excited about it and want to use it everywhere

@Nethermind thank you. I won't. But it's frustrating to try to do the right thing and find out too late that it was the wrong thing.

@feather @jeffsmith I appreciate it. I could have used it 3 months ago when I was doing the tech design for tabs on a site we just shipped

@jeffsmith I just wish it didn’t negate every other article I’ve read about making tabs accessible over the past six years. It’s frustrating

@jeffsmith so saying that it’s everyone’s responsibility will get heads nodding in the a11y community, and it’s completely unhelpful

@jeffsmith And even with that, I do my best to provide accessible sites. I don’t control whether we test. I suggest, but it never happens

@jeffsmith Even on projects where WCAG 2.0 Level A compliance is in the SOW, a11y support is the first thing cut when deadlines loom.

@jeffsmith this is an admirable sentiment, a fine intention, and completely divorced from the reality most developers live in.

@jeffsmith you’re not hearing me. I have limited resources. The world doesn’t care. If the a11y comm won’t explain, there’s no hope.

@jeffsmith and in a perfect world, I would. Or someone would. Guess what. I don’t live in a perfect world. A11y is for the consultants.

@jeffsmith if the a11y community can’t clearly tell a working developer like me what I need to do, then you’re useless.

@jeffsmith but the right thing doesn’t exist. Accessibility is a chimera, an unattainable mirage. “It depends”.

@jeffsmith see, this is the problem. Accessibility for most sites is an unaffordable luxury. If we can’t hire consultants, we’re fucked.
